I became interested in teaching fitness while looking for a way to counteract the effects of having a desk job as a computer programmer. I understand the effects this kind of work has on the body. Teaching Yoga came a little later, though I first started taking Yoga with my parents as a child.
During my Yoga journey, I explored a variety of different styles and I endeavor to share these with my students. My initial teacher training in 2001 was rooted in a vigorous vinyasa style, but over the years I have found that many of my students appreciate a slightly slower pace. I respect the need to warm the body slowly and thoroughly before any major stretching work begins.
Since I also have a background in fitness, I bring to my classes a sensibility to what the goal is and how to achieve it. This takes into consideration the differences that our 'Western' bodies have and accounts for modifications that help students overcome the effects that things like too much time spent sitting does to our bodies.
Don't assume that the only goal is a "work out" ...... stress relief is a huge component of Yoga!
